Quality Products

Denver & Rio Grande Western also purchased cars from Bethlehem which were nearly identical to the SCL G-5 design (likely it’s basis.) Rather than SCL’s 1900 cars, however, DRGW only bought 50. These were numbered DRGW 55500-55549 and were delivered in 1968. These cars also had steel floors and Tu-Way lading anchors. Nearly all 50 DRGW cars are in use today by Union Pacific for maintenance of way, hauling ties and other company materials.

DRGW cars were painted black with white lettering including the “flying Rio Grande” logo. Most of them are still in original paint today, with varying amounts of logos and such still visible.

DRGW cars rode on 70 ton roller bearing ASF A-3 trucks. We suggest Moloco 4088/4110.
Decals for Rio Grande cars will be available from RailTrain Hobbies.
