Quality Products
The KC-Brake (or K-Brake) was the most common type of freight car
air brake in the US, until the newer AB-Brake system was introduced in
1933. Many cars with K-Brakes were updated to that newer standard in the
1940’s but some were not and carried their old K-brakes until retirement.
1953 marks the year when KC-brake equipped cars were officially banned
from interchange with other railroads, 20 years after the AB-brake became
the new AAR approved standard.
